Model Landscape / Irrigation Ordinance

Experts in water-efficient landscaping practices have developed a toolbox of ideas that municipalities can choose from to promote efficient water landscaping practices in their communities.

efficient and sustainable water use

As part of our commitment to efficient and sustainable use of water, the South Metro Water Regional Conservation Subcommittee developed a Model Regional Landscape & Irrigation Ordinance. The purpose of this effort was to provide our members with a comprehensive, locally focused model ordinance that includes water-efficient landscape and irrigation standards developed with the South Metro Region's hydrologic and climate conditions in mind, with the intent to not only support existing local ordinances, but to also enhance conservation efforts in a practical way.

The model ordinance was developed by experts in the field and provides a comprehensive menu of best management practices in water-efficient landscape and irrigation practices. It includes criteria for irrigation systems and landscape design, a recommended plant list, a worksheet for water efficient landscapes and more.
